General Coal and Organic Petrology
This commission is concerned with the establishment of uniform nomenclature and analytical methods used throughout the field of coal and organic petrology. As in all of the Commissions, the Working Groups in Commission I change from time to time depending upon current interests; however, important emphases have been upon the standardisation of reflectance, maceral, fluorescence analyses and maceral nomenclature.
The commission hosts the Accreditation Program for single seam coal analysis (SCAP).

Accreditation Programme
Convenor: Kimon Christanis (christan@upatras.gr)
Single Coal Accreditation Program (SCAP) for both maceral group and vitrinite random reflectance analyses. In this program the ability of an analyst to identify and quantify the maceral groups and to identify and measure the vitrinite reflectance of a coal sample according to ISO standards is tested.
